Radiesse is a different material class from hyaluronic acid filler and from Sculptra. It is assessed and injected by an SMC-registered doctor.

Radiesse sits between the two things it is usually confused with. It provides support at placement and also drives a gradual tissue response afterwards, which is why the result at two weeks and the result at four months are not the same thing.
It is not reversible with hyaluronidase. Where reversibility matters to you, hyaluronic acid filler is the safer choice and your doctor will say so.

The skin is cleaned and local anaesthetic or topical numbing is used as appropriate.
Product is placed in the planned plane with a needle or cannula, then the area is moulded as directed. Session length depends on the areas treated and is confirmed by your doctor at consultation.

There is some change at placement, then a second, slower change as the tissue response develops over the following months.

Swelling and bruising for several days is common, and tenderness in the treated area is normal in the first week.
Keep pressure off the treated contour for the first day, and avoid heavy exercise, sauna and alcohol for twenty-four hours. Contact the clinic immediately if you develop severe pain, blanching of the skin or any change in vision.
Duration differs from hyaluronic acid filler and from a pure stimulator. The duration you can reasonably expect, and the interval at which you are reviewed, are set by your doctor at consultation.
Maintenance is judged at review against how the area has settled, not booked in advance.
What moves the cost of a Radiesse plan is the amount of product used and whether it is placed at standard concentration for contour or diluted to work across a wider area.
Radiesse is made of calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres suspended in a carboxymethylcellulose gel carrier. The gel gives an immediate effect; the microspheres stimulate a collagen response as the carrier is absorbed.

The most important point first: Unlike hyaluronic acid filler, this material cannot be dissolved with hyaluronidase, so a vascular event is managed by other means and placement is planned conservatively for that reason. Common and temporary: swelling, bruising, tenderness and redness for several days. Less common: prolonged swelling, visible or palpable product where it sits close to the surface, asymmetry, and infection at an injection point. Nodules can appear later, particularly in mobile areas. Rare but serious: vascular occlusion, where product enters or compresses a blood vessel. This can cause skin loss and, where vessels around the eye are involved, visual loss. It is a medical emergency. The warning signs are severe or increasing pain, blanching or dusky discolouration of the skin, and any change in vision. Contact the clinic immediately if any of these appear.
Radiesse is not used in the lips, and where reversibility matters to you a hyaluronic acid filler is the more conservative choice, because this material cannot be dissolved. A history of keloid scarring or an active autoimmune condition is discussed at assessment. The general exclusions that apply to every injectable, active infection or inflammation in the area to be treated, a bleeding or clotting disorder, and blood thinners, are set out in full on the dermal fillers page. A known allergy to any component of the product excludes it. Pregnancy and breastfeeding are contraindications.
