Radiesse Treatment for Men

Radiesse is a different material class from hyaluronic acid filler and from Sculptra. It is assessed and injected by an SMC-registered doctor.

Abstract macro still life: pale microspheres suspended in a clear gel carrier, standing in for a calcium hydroxylapatite injectable.

Quick answer

Radiesse gives some immediate support and also stimulates a collagen response over time. Unlike hyaluronic acid filler it cannot be dissolved, so placement is planned conservatively.

What it is

Radiesse sits between the two things it is usually confused with. It provides support at placement and also drives a gradual tissue response afterwards, which is why the result at two weeks and the result at four months are not the same thing.

It is not reversible with hyaluronidase. Where reversibility matters to you, hyaluronic acid filler is the safer choice and your doctor will say so.

How it is used

Contour support
Placed in the plane appropriate to the area agreed at assessment.
Diluted or hyperdiluted use
The product can be used at standard concentration where contour is the aim, or diluted so that it works across a wider area on skin quality instead. Whether a diluted approach suits your concern, and at what dilution, is a clinical decision your doctor makes at assessment.
Areas treated
The areas suitable for treatment are agreed at assessment, based on your anatomy and the concern you came in with, rather than fixed in advance on a page.

What it treats

  • Loss of contour support in the mid and lower face
  • Skin laxity where a stimulator response is wanted alongside support
  • Areas where a firmer material than hyaluronic acid is appropriate

The procedure, step by step

Assessment first, including whether a non-reversible material is appropriate for your anatomy and your expectations.

The skin is cleaned and local anaesthetic or topical numbing is used as appropriate.

Product is placed in the planned plane with a needle or cannula, then the area is moulded as directed. Session length depends on the areas treated and is confirmed by your doctor at consultation.

Aftercare is explained and a review is booked.

Results timeline

There is some change at placement, then a second, slower change as the tissue response develops over the following months.

Results vary between individuals and cannot be guaranteed.

Downtime and aftercare

Swelling and bruising for several days is common, and tenderness in the treated area is normal in the first week.

Keep pressure off the treated contour for the first day, and avoid heavy exercise, sauna and alcohol for twenty-four hours. Contact the clinic immediately if you develop severe pain, blanching of the skin or any change in vision.

Course and maintenance

Duration differs from hyaluronic acid filler and from a pure stimulator. The duration you can reasonably expect, and the interval at which you are reviewed, are set by your doctor at consultation.

Maintenance is judged at review against how the area has settled, not booked in advance.

What determines the cost

What moves the cost of a Radiesse plan is the amount of product used and whether it is placed at standard concentration for contour or diluted to work across a wider area.

How we quote, and why we do not publish prices

Product and provenance

Radiesse is made of calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres suspended in a carboxymethylcellulose gel carrier. The gel gives an immediate effect; the microspheres stimulate a collagen response as the carrier is absorbed.

Products are sourced through official distribution channels and the batch number of every product used is recorded in your notes.

Why patients choose Hisential for this

  • Every Radiesse session is injected by an SMC-registered doctor, not delegated.
  • Because this material cannot be dissolved, placement is planned conservatively and reviewed before any more is added.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Clear answers, written by our clinical team. Tap any question for its direct permalink, or reach out to your Personal Concierge for anything else.

  1. Is Radiesse the same as Sculptra?

No. They are different materials with different behaviour. Radiesse gives support at placement as well as a later tissue response; Sculptra works only gradually.

  2. Can it be dissolved?

No. Only hyaluronic acid fillers can be dissolved with hyaluronidase.

  3. How long does it last?

Longer than most hyaluronic acid fillers in comparable use, but the honest answer for your own plan comes from assessment.

  4. Is it painful?

Numbing is used. Tenderness in the treated area for a few days afterwards is normal.

  5. What are the risks and side effects of Radiesse?

The most important point first: Unlike hyaluronic acid filler, this material cannot be dissolved with hyaluronidase, so a vascular event is managed by other means and placement is planned conservatively for that reason. Common and temporary: swelling, bruising, tenderness and redness for several days. Less common: prolonged swelling, visible or palpable product where it sits close to the surface, asymmetry, and infection at an injection point. Nodules can appear later, particularly in mobile areas. Rare but serious: vascular occlusion, where product enters or compresses a blood vessel. This can cause skin loss and, where vessels around the eye are involved, visual loss. It is a medical emergency. The warning signs are severe or increasing pain, blanching or dusky discolouration of the skin, and any change in vision. Contact the clinic immediately if any of these appear.

  6. Who is not suitable for Radiesse?

Radiesse is not used in the lips, and where reversibility matters to you a hyaluronic acid filler is the more conservative choice, because this material cannot be dissolved. A history of keloid scarring or an active autoimmune condition is discussed at assessment. The general exclusions that apply to every injectable, active infection or inflammation in the area to be treated, a bleeding or clotting disorder, and blood thinners, are set out in full on the dermal fillers page. A known allergy to any component of the product excludes it. Pregnancy and breastfeeding are contraindications.

  7. Who performs the treatment?

Every injection at Hisential is performed by an SMC-registered doctor.
